Loewe Puzzle Bag Review: Unique design forever
The Puzzle is one of those bags I can recognize before I even notice the logo. The uneven leather panels, folded shape and architectural construction make it feel more like a design object than a conventional handbag.
That is probably why it still catches my attention more than a decade after its 2015 debut. Plenty of “It bags” disappear once trends move on, but the Puzzle still looks current. Maybe a little strange, maybe a little nerdy… but never boring.

Why does the design still work?
The biggest attraction is the contrast between geometry and softness. It looks structured at first, yet the leather relaxes with use, especially on more traditional constructions. That slightly slouchy look is actually what I prefer.

It is practical too. The top handle looks polished, while the detachable strap makes crossbody wear easy. The downside? The flap sits over the zipper, so the opening feels smaller than the body suggests.
Owners regularly mention this, and I understand why. A bag can be beautiful and still be mildly annoying every time you reach for your phone.

Original Puzzle or Puzzle Edge?
This is where things get interesting. The Puzzle Edge uses overlapping panels with single stitch lines, giving the surface a cleaner look. The layered construction has more visible sections and, to my eye, more depth.
I still prefer the older aesthetic. The whole appeal of the Puzzle was that complicated folded geometry, so simplifying it removes a little of the character. Reddit discussions suggest I am far from alone.
Still, the Edge has fans. Some owners prefer its cleaner finish and say it looks much better in person. I would not call it worse—just less sculptural.

Which size would I choose?
For everyday use, Small feels like the sweet spot. Mini is charming but more compact, while Medium offers extra capacity at the cost of a bulkier silhouette.
If I were buying one Puzzle to use regularly, Small would be my choice. It keeps the distinctive proportions without feeling too tiny or oversized.

Can the price still make sense?
As of August 2026, Loewe’s U.S. site lists the Mini Puzzle Edge in calfskin from $2,850, the Small at $3,850 and the Medium at $4,100. A Small layered Puzzle in classic calfskin is $4,250.
The Featherlight range goes higher: Mini is $3,850, Small $4,800, while Medium and Large nappa lambskin versions are $5,750. The Puzzle 10 Confetti reaches $6,800.

Obviously, none of this is cheap. But “expensive” alone tells me very little about a luxury bag. The better question is whether the design still feels special enough to justify spending that much.
For me, it mostly does.

Would I still buy the Puzzle in 2026?
Yes, but I would be selective. I would prioritize the Small and, if possible, a version that retains more of the layered depth that made the original famous.
The zipper access is imperfect, prices have climbed and there are now so many variations that choosing one can feel unnecessarily confusing. Even so, few luxury bags are this recognizable without relying on a giant logo.
That is why the Puzzle still works for me. It is expensive, slightly awkward and perhaps overcomplicated… but those imperfections are part of the charm.
