The first thing that caught my eye about the Gucci Lady Lunetta Chain was how familiar it looked.
A crescent-shaped shoulder bag is hardly a new idea. We have seen plenty of them over the past few years. And yet, once Gucci adds that chunky gold-tone chain, the whole mood changes. Suddenly it feels less like another practical half-moon bag and more like an accessory that happens to carry your things.
The sand and brown GG canvas version immediately reads as classic Gucci. The black perforated GG leather feels quieter and more grown-up.
Same silhouette, surprisingly different personalities.

Is the chain really what makes this bag interesting?
Pretty much.
The Lady Lunetta Chain comes with a detachable chain strap as well as a detachable adjustable leather strap. That means it can sit close under the arm with the chain or turn into a more practical crossbody when needed.
On the Small, the chain feels especially important because the bag itself measures only 9.6 x 5.9 x 2 inches. The proportions make the hardware look almost like oversized jewelry.

That might actually be my favorite part.
Take the chain away and the Lunetta becomes a fairly understated crescent bag. Add it back, and suddenly there is a hint of late-1990s and early-2000s shoulder-bag glamour.

GG canvas or perforated leather?
This is where choosing gets difficult.
The sand and dark brown GG canvas is the obvious Gucci option. The monogram is visible from a distance, the brown tones are easy to style, and the gold hardware makes it feel even more recognizable.
I would probably keep the outfit simple around it—denim, a white shirt, a plain knit. Too many prints competing with that GG canvas could get busy very quickly.

The black version goes in another direction. Gucci uses soft perforated GG leather, so the logo becomes part of the texture rather than sitting loudly on top of the bag.
Personally, that one keeps pulling my attention back.
It still looks unmistakably luxurious, but you need to look a little closer to understand exactly what you are seeing.

How small is the Small, really?
The Small measures 9.6 x 5.9 x 2 inches and weighs around 0.7 lb. Gucci says it can accommodate an iPad Mini, a Pro Max/Plus-size iPhone, AirPods, a long wallet and lipstick.
That sounds surprisingly generous for something that looks this compact.

The catch is the 2-inch depth. I would not expect it to behave like a bottomless everyday bag once bulky pouches, sunglasses cases and chargers enter the equation.
Still, the low weight is appealing. Chain bags can look beautiful in photos and then become irritatingly heavy on the shoulder. At least on paper, this one starts from a fairly lightweight base.

Or does the Medium make more sense?
The Medium jumps to 12 x 9.5 x 2.6 inches and approximately 1.3 lb.
Visually, I think it changes the character of the design.
The Small feels like jewelry with a bag attached to it. The Medium feels more like a proper everyday bag decorated with a statement chain.
Neither approach is wrong.
For someone who carries more during the day, the Medium is probably the easier size to justify. But if the main reason I wanted the Lady Lunetta Chain was its proportions and styling, I would still lean toward the Small.
It simply looks more distinctive to me.

And then we get to the price…
As of September 2026, Gucci’s official U.S. pricing starts at $1,950 for the Small GG canvas version. The Small perforated GG leather is $2,450.
The Medium GG canvas is also $2,450, while the Medium black GG leather reaches $2,980.
That creates an interesting dilemma.
At exactly $2,450, you can choose either the smaller leather bag or the larger canvas bag. So this is not only about budget—it becomes a choice between material and capacity.
For me, the Small leather version is the tempting one. Someone looking for a more useful everyday size may easily reach the opposite conclusion.

Does it feel trendy enough to date quickly?
That is probably the biggest question mark.
The crescent silhouette itself is simple enough to survive beyond one season. The chunky chain, however, gives the bag much more of a fashion moment.
And that is both the attraction and the risk.
The good news is that the chain is detachable. Using only the leather strap makes the Lunetta look considerably quieter. Then again, removing its most memorable feature also raises the obvious question: why buy the Chain version in the first place?
I keep going back and forth on that one.

So which version would I choose?
Black perforated GG leather. Small.
The GG canvas might be more immediately recognizable, but the black leather has a better balance of subtle branding and obvious luxury to my eye. The perforated monogram rewards a closer look, while the gold-tone chain gives the dark leather just enough contrast.
$2,450 is certainly not an impulse-purchase price.
But at least the Lady Lunetta Chain does not feel like Gucci simply placed a logo on another generic shoulder bag. The proportions, the curved body and that almost jewelry-like chain give it an identity of its own.
Maybe that explains why I keep coming back to it.
It is familiar without feeling completely predictable—and sometimes that is exactly what makes a new luxury bag difficult to forget.
